The Butterfly Room offers a range of therapy interventions to support children of all ages and need. We work with children from 4 years of age and support children, adolescents, young adults and adults. We believe that every individual is different and will require a different approach to support, therefore we offer a range of services including -

Counselling
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues. Counselling can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, and find your own solutions to problems.  


CBT
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.
CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle. CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. You're shown how to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel.


​Art Therapy
Art therapy encourages children and young people to better understand thoughts, feelings and behaviours. By creating images and objects, children and young people can begin to see the thoughts and feelings they have inside and then be supported by the art therapist to better understand themselves and find solutions.




​Integrative Psychotherapy
Integrative Psychotherapy is an approach to treatment that involves selecting the techniques from different therapeutic orientations best suited to a client’s particular problem. By tailoring the therapy to the individual, integrative therapists hope to produce the most significant effects.



Playful Parenting Programme 
Playful Parenting' is a 12 week programme that helps parents to strengthen the relationship with their child, reducing behavioural and emotional challenges. It is focused around weekly sessions of play at home, with a box of toys, designed around the preferences of your child. Through weekly interactive sessions at the Butterfly Room across several weeks, learnt skills are transferred to problematic areas of home life. This evidence-based approach works with all children aged from three to late teens for both neurotypical children, neurodiverse children with ASD or ADHD and those who are fostered or adopted.  Please note that we are not able to offer after school or weekend time slots for this programme at the current time. 



​Music Therapy
Please note that we are not currently offering music therapy at this time. 




​Play Therapy
Play therapy helps young people to express themselves in their own way; especially if they are struggling to understand how they are feeling, or are finding it hard to put their experiences into words.
Play Therapy enables young people to explore their own creativity and express themselves using media such as: drawing and painting, water and clay, sand tray etc.

​Group Sessions

We also offer group therapy sessions including Art Therapy workshops. Social Skills Groups and Emotional Toolkit sessions.

The Butterfly Room is proud to offer a multi agency approach to working with our clients and we work closely with many NHS and Social Care services. We also provide sessions and support for a number of Hertfordshire schools including Larwood School, St Johns C of E School, Bedwell School and Brandles School.
