How much are therapy sessions?
All our therapies currently cost £60 per session.
How much is the ASD Screening Assessment?
Our ASD Screening Assessment currently costs £80.00. Once an appointment has been confirmed you will receive an invoice from us for this amount ahead of your assessment taking place.
Cancellations
Will I be charged if I cancel an appointment?
We do not charge for sessions that are cancelled with over 48 hours notice, however cancellations received with under 48 hours notice or if you do not attend an appointment without notifying us, you will still be charged as outlined in our terms and conditions.
Therapists also reserve the right to charge the full session fee for cancellations that equate to more than two consecutive cancellations. Full details are outlined in our terms and conditions.
Do cancellations count as one of my sessions?
Cancellations do not usually count towards the number of sessions you receive, however should there be a high number of cancellations we may need to review this with you.
How many cancellations can I have?
Consistency and regular attendance are extremely important to ensure that your child benefits as much as possible from their experiences here at The Butterfly Room.
We fully understand that there will be times you need to cancel a session, however we will need to review sessions with you should you cancel more than two sessions in a row or if you cancel sessions on a regular basis.
We do recognise that there can be circumstances that affect your ability to attend and individual circumstances are taken into account should we need to discuss attendance with you.
Making Payment
How do I pay for my sessions?
Our billing cycle runs from the 16th to the 15th of each month, and you will receive a monthly invoice from us on or around the 16th of each month which will include all sessions taken within that period.
Do I need to pay for a block of sessions in advance?
We do not require you to pay for a set amount of sessions in advance. You will receive a monthly invoice on or around the 16th of each month.
Can I pay on a weekly basis?
You are very welcome to pay after each session if this is better for you, please let us know if this is how you would prefer to pay ahead of starting your sessions with us and we can provide you with our BACS details and update our records - please note that if you choose to pay on a weekly basis you will not receive a monthly invoice for your records.
Can I pay on the day?
Unfortunately, we are not able to accept cash or card payments on the day, all payments need to be made via bank transfer and we can provide you with these details.
Can I pay over the phone?
Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities to take payments over the phone, all payments need to be made via bank transfer and we can provide you with these details.
Can I pay via credit card?
We are able to accept credit card payments via Paypal. If you need to pay an invoice via credit card please contact us at [email protected] and we will be able to send you a Paypal payment request which will enable you to pay in this way.
Can we pay via our health insurance?
Yes you can, however we are not currently registered with any insurance companies, this may mean that you will need to pay for your sessions and claim these payments back through your insurers, and we are able to provide you with a receipt of payment for this purpose.
Please note that we would strongly advise that you speak with your insurers before progressing therapy with us to confirm their criteria and requirements, as not all insurers will cover the services we provide.
Therapy sessions
How many sessions can we have?
Our sessions are currently open ended and can continue for as long as your therapist feels they are beneficial to you.
Are sessions always at the same time?
Yes your time slot will be on the same day and time for the duration of your time with us unless your therapist needs to change your timeslot, your therapist will discuss and notify you of this should they need to make any changes.
Can I change my time slot at any point?
This will depend on your therapist's availability. Should you wish to move to a different time slot we advise you to speak to your therapist who will be able to discuss this with you, but we cannot guarantee that this will be possible.
Do sessions continue in school holidays?
Yes we are open throughout the school holidays and sessions will continue as normal unless your therapist is taking annual leave, and your therapist will notify you of this in advance.
Can I stop therapy sessions at any time?
Yes, you are under no obligation to continue sessions with us and you are able to stop sessions with us at any time, we just ask that you give us a minimum of 2 sessions notice and we strongly recommend attending these final 2 sessions to ensure your therapy ends appropriately. Please note that you will still be charged for this 2 session notice period even if you choose not to attend these closing sessions.
Do we receive feedback?
Our therapists will review your child’s progress regularly and the first review is usually around session 6 or 7. Your therapist will always be happy to update you and discuss progress at any time, so please do feel free to speak with them. Therapists are happy to provide a final review and an end report* upon request (*report charges apply and are outlined in our terms and conditions).
However please be aware that our therapists are not able to provide you with any details of what is said or spoken about in your child’s sessions. Trust between your child and their therapist is of utmost importance and anything discussed in your child’s sessions is strictly confidential.
Do I have to wait for my child at The Butterfly Room?
Yes, we do require you to wait whilst your child is in their therapy sessions and we have a comfortable waiting area where parents/carers are able to wait.
Can I go into the sessions with my child?
We are very happy for you to go in with your child to help settle them, and you are very welcome to stay with your child during their first session if your child needs this reassurance.
However, we do ask and recommend that parents/carers do not sit in on subsequent sessions as this can prevent your child from feeling comfortable and able to speak to their therapist openly which is of utmost importance.
Do you see patients at home?
Unfortunately we are not able to see patients in their homes. All our sessions take place at our Centre in Stevenage (postcode SG1 5QU). However, we may be able to offer you online sessions as an alternative.
The Initial Consultation Call
Do I have to book an initial consultation call?
Yes, we require all patients to book an initial consultation call in order to progress any of our services. This consultation call is free and will be with our Centre Manager Claire.
The call is designed to discuss things with you in more detail, obtain relevant background history and to discuss any current concerns, and based on this call, we will be able to recommend the best type of therapy and way forward for you. The call will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Does my child need to be present for the initial consultation call?
No, this initial consultation call is usually with the parent/carer and your child does not need to be present. However, if you would like you child to be involved in the call, we are very happy for them to be present.
Is the call a video call?
No, the initial consultation call is a phone call and we will ring you on the time and date you have booked for on the phone number you have provided. Please note that our call may come from a private/withheld number and we ask that you provide a contact phone number that can receive these calls.
Can I cancel my initial consultation call?
Yes, you can cancel your initial consultation call with us at any time either by following the directions in the booking confirmation email that you would have received when booking your appointment, or by contacting us at [email protected].
Do earlier call dates become available?
Yes, we do on occasions receive cancellations and any cancellations received will automatically become available for rebooking on the booking calendar. We therefore recommend that patients check the calendar regularly to see if earlier appointments have become available.
Please note that due to the current wait times and high level of enquiries that we are experiencing at the moment, we are not always able to contact individual patients when we receive a cancellation.

Is there parking at The Butterfly Room?
Yes we do have parking on site.
Do you have a waiting area?
Yes we have a comfortable waiting area for parents/carers and we do require you to wait whilst your child is in their sessions.
What qualifications do your therapists have?
All of our therapist are fully qualified and you can find further details about the qualifications and experience our individual therapists have here, but please do feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you have any further questions about our therapists experience and/or the qualifications they hold.
ASD Screening Assessments
Is the screening a full ASD diagnosis?
Our ASD Screening Assessment is not a full ASD diagnosis.
The ASD Screening Assessment is a semi structured clinical observation of your child to obtain a picture of strengths and differences to inform an assessment for ASD. It is not a standardised assessment nor a diagnostic assessment, however the ASD Screening can help to support further investigations towards a full ASD diagnosis.
Is the screening an ADHD assessment or diagnosis?
The Screening Assessment is not an ADHD assessment or diagnosis, however the assessment does include observing for behaviours indicative of ADHD.
Do you provide a full ASD Diagnosis?
Unfortunately, this is no longer a service we offer, however if following your ASD Screening Assessment your assessor recommends that a formal ASD diagnosis should be pursued, we are able to provide you with information on how you can progress this both via the NHS and privately.
Can I cancel my appointment?
Yes you can cancel your appointment at anytime, but please be aware that full refunds will only be given where cancellation is received at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment and when you do not wish for your appointment to be rescheduled.
Cancellations received with less than 48 hours notice will still be charged a fee of £40.00, and please note that this fee will still be charged even if you wish to reschedule your appointment.
Is the Report recognised by the NHS?
Our ASD Screening Assessment is conducted by fully trained assessors and to date we have not received any feedback from patients who have experienced difficulties when presenting the report to their GP or other health professionals.
How long will the report take after we have had our assessment?
We always aim to send your report to you as quickly as possible and we do our best to send you your report within 12-14 working days, however this can take longer during busy periods and we do thank you for your patience and understanding.
What should we expect?
The Screening Assessment is around 1 hour and is very non-invasive. You will be with your child throughout the appointment and the first half of the appointment will be speaking to you to obtain relevant information such as details around your child’s development history etc. The remainder of the appointment will be, depending on your child’s age, playing and/or chatting with your child about their likes/dislikes, friends, school and hobbies etc.

What should I do if I can’t send the Screening forms back via email?
We ask that all screening forms be completed and returned to us via email at least 48 hours before your appointment. This ensures that we are able to pass your forms on to your assessor ahead of your appointment, and that your assessor has time to read through your forms ahead of your assessment. If you experience difficulties in completing and returning your forms via email, please let us know as soon as possible and we can advise how best to progress. Please note that we will not be able to complete your assessment without all screening forms being completed.
